The examples provided in this article are extreme cases, and are probably quite rare, but that doesn't mean harm isn't being done in seemingly innocent cases.

We live in a digital society now where people share their every inner thought and family experience online—but they are not a reflection of reality. They are cherry-picked moments filtered through anti-aging algorithms and blemish removal tools. I believe these practices cause subconscious psychological harm not only to adults but especially to children.

The harm is caused by the constant bombardment of an endless feed of perfectly happy people and families that don't match up with one's own reality and self-image. This might lead one to think that their own family or self is somehow defective. It probably has a large influence on the steady rise of "deaths of despair" in our culture.
